PreK Registration Process

Registration Process 

 

2020-2021 academic year: Applications will be accepted (entered into the lottery) from:

  • February 3 – February 28, 2020: school days only from 10:00AM – 2:00PM at the Bresnahan School Offices (either Door #1 or Door #2). Please note no applications will be accepted during school vacation week, February 17 - 21, as offices will be closed.

  • Or may be scanned and emailed to lmorasse@newburyport.k12.ma.us or gphillips@newburyport.k12.ma.us

  • Or may be mailed to the school

Priority registration is open to current preschool students registering for their second year of preschool who are already students in the preschool program. Priority registration is between Monday, January  6, 2020 through Thursday, January 16, 2020 only

Priority registration is open to siblings of students who have attended the Newburyport Public Schools Integrated Preschool Program (whether it was located at the Bresnahan or former Brown Schools). Priority registration is between Monday, January 6, 2020 through Thursday, January 16, 2020 only. Applications received after Thursday, January 16 will be entered into the lottery.
 
The Newburyport Public Schools Integrated Preschool program does not include Kindergarten. The preschool program is run by the Department of Early Childhood and Care and Kindergarten falls under the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; the two departments have different rules and regulations.  Siblings of students who did not attend the Newburyport Public Schools Integrated Preschool program are not eligible for priority registration. These students should apply as new students and will be entered into the lottery. 
 

On Monday, February 3rd, 2020 we will accept applications for all new students.   A preschool lottery will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 to determine if your child is accepted into one of our programs. If there are more applicants than slots available, a waiting list will be formed.

Complete packets will be available at the Parent Information Night Wednesday, January 29, 2020.

Only complete applications will be accepted. The following documents are required to obtain a lottery number:

  1. $300.00 Registration fee, check or money order made payable to the Newburyport Public Schools (no cash or credit accepted)

  2. Preschool Application Form  

  3. Newburyport Public Schools Enrollment Form

  4. Confidential Health Form

  5. Certification of Address Form

  6. Home Language Survey  (English version)*

  7. Parent Questionnaire

* For the Home Language Survey in a language other than English, please contact the office at (978) 465-4435.

Please make copies of each of the following before submitting your application. 

  1. Your child’s birth certificate

  2. Your child’s most recent health record including lead test, immunization and physical (or MA Health Form)

  3. Proof of Newburyport Residency (must be one of the following: utility bill, ex: water bill, electricity bill, cable bill, mortgage/lease agreement)

Upon receipt of a complete application you will receive a lottery number and your child will be entered into the preschool lottery which will be drawn on March 4, 2020 at 9:00 AM at the Superintendent’s Office-70 Low St, Newburyport. The public is welcome to attend the lottery. Lottery results will be posted online no later than March 6, 2020.  Notification of your child’s application status will be mailed home in early-mid March.
